Marshmallow Challenge

(Also known as: Pasta Tower)

Build a spaghetti tower that will support a marshmallow as high as possible using a few bits of tape and string and a pair of scissors.

How To Play

  • Step 1.

    Divide into team or mixed age and gender and issue each team with the following materials:
    20 lengths of spaghetti
    1 metre of string
    1 metre of sticky tape
    A pair of scissors
    1 marshmallow.

  • Step 2.

    The teams have 15 minutes to build a tower that will support a marshmallow off the ground for at least 10 seconds. NB: The height is measured to the marshmallow itself.

  • Step 3.

    It is not essential to use all the materials but no additional materials may be used, and no external support other than the floor or table on which the tower sits.

  • The Winner

    The team whose marshmallow is supported highest for at least 10 seconds.

  • Tips / Variations

    Will teams attach the marshmallow at the beginning or right at the end???
