Catch It, Head It

(Also known as: Chipped, Cracked & Broken)

In a circle, throw ball to each other. If you say catch must they must head it, if you say head it they must catch it. Each failure incurs a wicked penalty.

How To Play

  • Step 1.

Players stand in a large circle, one player holding a football.

  • Step 2.

The ball is thrown (sensibly!!) towards another player. The thrower shouts either "Catch It' or Head it".

  • Step 3.

The receiving player must do the opposite to the instruction given. If told to head it she must catch it. If asked to catch it she must head it to someone.

  • Step 4.

Each mistake is penalised as follows: 1st mistake, down on one knee. Second mistake, down on two knees. 3rd mistake one arm behind the back. 4th mistake - elimination.

  • The Winner

The last player still in possession of at least one arm.

  • Tips / Variations

Chipped, Cracked & Broken is a similar game but purely involves ball catching, no heading the ball. Therefore, it is good for younger kids to develop their hand-eye coordination.
